General Discussion / Re: How to increase the amount of players!
« on: October 21, 2017, 10:59:56 am »
Activity:

VGT gave point bonuses for reaching 50/100/150/200 game milestones, 100-200 pts. This helped promote activity.

VGT had a point decay system, this meant players couldn't get 1000 points ahead of 2nd place and then quit the season.

Cash incentives for players that have no hope of winning the season. 10$ to player with most games, 10$ to player with two accounts top 20 of 1v1 and 2v2. Things like this help the lower tiers to mass games in both leagues.

I think these are good idea's. The cash one might be out of reach, I don't think there's as much money for SCW as VGT once had, but still a good idea nonetheless

I dont get it, why are ppl so sensitive. Comn.. ppl are doing it for the fun, how can any1 actually take it that far that they even care.

These are the top bm's imo.

1. Fucking noob, uve been playing this game for over 8 years and still suck. go back to 3vs3 public, faggot
(My favorite, haha)

2. Fucking ugly faggot, ive seen ur pick you look like blade the rat, HAHA.

3. I was eating while raping you and ur ally, too ez.

4. Go play Momo instead, when u reach my level msg me plz. GG

5. Go back to ur mothers basement, lmfao.

Did i miss anything? comn... who the fuck cares.

I mean, you probably will care when there's no league to play in because it's dead
and I'm not saying it just about you, lot's of people who BM will question why there's no activity, then laugh when more than 1 person tells them it's about BM because they won't listen lol

people on this website are trying to help, and as expected, just get laughed at and told to stfu, because that's the attitude the community has. Also, i bet the next one thrown at me is "you'v played 20 games and won 2 you're nobody you can't and won't help you have no say" , which is also the attitude this community has, which is a shame, because it stunts the growth of the league.

I respect the people who have put in the effort to rise to the top and absoloutely demolish everyone they play, and I really believe they should have a huge say in everything because at the end of the day they are obviously the active ones who contribute the most games, but that's not to say I think we should ignore everyone else that has registered. There'es a reason theres 450+ people registered on the site, yet when you get to page 2 of the 1v1 standings there are records like 3-2 (5 games , on just page 2, out of 450 people) and we all should try to figure it out, the community won't grow with 1 person doing positive things while 10 around him trash him for trying it or bringing up ideas. it's not about being sensitive, it's about trying to grow a community that you're part of.

And we can't leave out that inactivity is also due to how fucked up bnet is now. Randomly crashing, Taking ppl off friend lists, not loading games, dropping in mid game. Some people come on to play and they get 1 game in before it start's fucking up and they leave for another week before they try again . it's dumb as hell and should be fixed

it's not about trying to get people to play 50 games every day of their lives. Just getting the people who go 3-4 days without playing ,because obviously everyone is busy with life, to WANT to come on and play a few games, maybe even league games. Rather then saying it's not even worth it I hardly play anyway. Trying to make op ugl a place people want to be a part of

There are like 450+ members registered on the website, but nowhere near that amount playing games. I think people just need to be more active, and a good way to do that is to create an environment online in which they want to be a part of, not the opposite. We should all think of ways to make Op UGL an attractive place that makes people want to be in the channel rather than out of it. How can we do this?

This may be a lot to ask. But PuMa is right. What if there was a separate channel that had people who were nice enough to take in new comers and teach them some basic build orders from 1v1 to 2v2 , and take the time to answer any of their questions? I know there is a forum on the website for that, which I think is great, but it's different when you are physically playing with someone there helping you out compared to just asking questions on a website. I would definitely do this, if I was good enough. Hell, even not being close to one of the best players I would still totally teach anyone what I know so far, which is not much, but better than nothing.

Maybe it doesn't even have to be a separate channel, because this would also potentially bring more activity into Op UGL. I think a lot of people are willing to train and ask questions but are so worried about getting ridiculed that they won't ask anyone for help, so they just play and get destroyed and bm'd , then don't come back. I think we need more support for these players. I think saying "suck it up and learn" is the easy way to go about it. Helping out is a much more effective solution, because more people will stay with it rather than abandoning it.

There's also a big split between whether this should be bw or orig too from what I'm seeing. Why not just have a season for each one happening at the same time? Then whoever wants to bw can bw, whoever wants to orig can orig. This may seem like a lot of extra work, I have no idea. If it is, then why not have a vote like someone else has mentioned . Seems pretty reasonable to me. Lastly, I am pretty active, and would be willing to help any way to make this thing run smoothly, I just need to be told where to start. Thanks

stop being fucking dicks to anyone. we all grow up now... it changes nothing to insult some1 else.

Think this one plays the biggest role when it comes to killing activity. Nobody likes to be harassed about how badly you blow at a game for the duration of the game. It's already bad enough the person ends up loosing because of it. I doubt someone is saying " i was amazing in that game " and feeling confident after they've lost.

I remember teaching every and anyone i could when I was active as fawk on this game, shit.. i still do it now lol on my stream and even when im not streaming. Not sure when all of the sudden people became cocky and bm as fk. Now every other game is a bm fest and people complaining about how they got a shitty ally. I'm pretty sure a ton of players can vouch for me if those players still played some people just don't like to admit it so I wouldn't be surprised if nobody speaks out assuming those people i helped still play. Shit i helped jake a ton when he was just a rugrat back in g)a, I helped infa)solid, xtre-rak, nhuman, xnb-homeless, qaa(JK  ;D), insane, lars from g)a i think he went by g)a-z4r3x, plenty of people in g)a, plenty of people from god, ed)ccc[bnd] or some shit plenty of people from my old apm clan and thats just from the top of my head. I mean the list is endless. Maybe they weren't the best or whatever but the point is i often tried to contribute to friends/randoms.

It's a huge bummer seeing people in pubs totally bash the shet out of noobs with " my partners suck ", " this guy is garbage ", " should have gave me a computer instead " lol. It can be funny if its witty but most of the shet we've heard a billion times over and over. We get it, you got a noob, we all get them, move on and play the game and if it doesn't take up to much of your time attempt advising the person for their next game.

People are trying to learn the game and are interested but the "pro's" don't give them the opportunity. I get asked to help/teach in my streams pretty often so trust me people are really wanting to play and learn. There isn't going to be another wave of people coming to starcraft, this is it and if you want to create activity for your favorite game + league then i suggest people start changing their attitude/opinion about noobs cause they are the ones who will keep your league alive. Nobody else is going to come and promote your league, it's you or nobody and I doubt they want to come to a channel where the players are constantly bashing their skill level.

That's just not fun even in a game. Don't want to sound like a mr.knowitall but that is how i feel starcraft has been since ive came back and the reality of the situation. I know some might argue " well its the internet, stop being a p*ss* ". Yeah, true, but just because it's the internet doesn't mean you gotta be a d-bag. Just saying... And if this isn't convincing enough then again, you should really think about your fav league/game dying out again cause that is a very viable scenario.

this x1000000000. i plan to play next season a lot, the only reason being i've decided to try and ignore all the bm my best, and my rec is going to be brutal x] i know i suck, and don't need any extra on top of it >_< nothing wrong with little bm where needed / or joking around, but the shit i've seen in this league is the most i've ever seen in any league

Honestly...space and super map are no different for newbs like myself...i hear ppl claiming super is more balanced than space but im sure toss is still favored and cross spots has disadvantages on super map

maybe. just seeing a lot of talk about drops in mid bases, and editing map to lower mins, but the super already has the mins in the middle of the mid bases. :]

so the option to use super map exists, but people still complain about the other map? O_O

why hasn't the super map been tested for the league ? seems like the most logical solution to the map problem

And you think that the original (SC) statistics are going to be different, they will be practically the same or worse since zerg has fewer resources on how to win in original.

The imbalance has to see more by the map, the positions in the middle should have the resources more center and the smaller entries.

The 2 games BW and SC are great..

i've always wondered why this season of scw could not use the map that fixes that issue (the Super map)

So I spent some time taking a look at the first 1771 games played this season. For anyone interested, here are the results:

Games won:
PvT   364   66.91%
TvP   180   33.09%
PvZ   360   64.17%
ZvP   201   35.83%
TvZ   244   57.41%
ZvT   181   42.59%

PvP   201
TvT   23
ZvZ   17

Some conclusions that I think can be drawn here:
  • RvR into a mirror matchup is SUPER rare.  In the case of PvP I would postulate that the 201 PvP games played were from PvR or PvP games. No idea what percent of games start as PvR and end up PvP.
  • Protoss is heavily favored in all matchups (obv)
  • TvZ is T favored, but not by a huge amount

Note that this sample is heavily biased by individual players. A player with over 100 games would account for almost 6% of the total games.

cool . thanks for taking the time to do that ! pretty neat to see it all broken down this way :D

It's like when the biggest pussy/nerd in the school (over in the corner eating by himself with a little note that mommy left in his lunchbox to make him feel loved and important) calls out the BADDEST, biggest, TOUGHEST dog in the yard. Wtf do you think is gonna happen?? You're gonna get your ass kicked clearly... Now run back over to your corner by yourself with your little virgin/nerd head down and finish your lunch then head to your "ping pong" with all the other little dorks in suspenders.

oh wow this is scary shit i can't believe how tough you are man god damn. i can't believe you refer to yourself as a bad big tough dog online lmao nice you fucking loser

also, ping pong is fun as fuck and i sure as hell would rather play that then hang out with the exact definition of what a fucking douchebag is
